Hello, April Showers!

Waiting for you now, May Flowers...

Oh, lovely April. Month of rain and hoping for Spring. Alas, it is also a month of fools. And fools we are for thinking we can predict the weather (never mind that it’s also Earth Month).

Anyway, hello! Thanks for signing up to my monthly newsletter, The Pea Pod! What better way to start the new month than with a brand-new subscription? In my newsletter, I’ll be going over updates for my WIPs, recaps of my progress, writing tips, book shoutouts, and a monthly poem to top it off.

Fire in Flight Updates

My main project is still expected to be released in October 2025. I still have lots to share about it, but to celebrate my first newsletter, I’m treating you to the book’s blurb! Check it out:

“This world was one of vigilantes and unseen justice, after all.”

Secrets. Scandals. And lies.

Nothing is ever as it seems to be in the mysterious city of New Harbor. The city is home to survivors of an apocalyptic war, and holds many conspiracies tied to a fallen nation’s demise and its supernatural stones. Yet when one ignores the depths and only takes in the view of the surface, the issues are imaginary. There is nothing to be worried about.

Eighteen-year-old Matt Ellis moves to the bayside “utopia” with his sister, Madeline, after she gets a promotion at Streak Corporation, the largest weapons manufacturer in the world. In a city suppressing its secrets, Matt must embrace his own destiny when he gets involved in a string of murders related to the company. After all, he is no stranger to secrets, as he keeps his identity concealed as a masked vigilante.

Matt puts his skills as a vigilante to use when a sniper attacks the employees of Streak Corporation in the dead of night. Determined to find the truth behind these scandals, Matt suits up to confront these deadly secrets within the industry and put an end to the sniper’s terror.

Excited? I’m personally ecstatic! I can’t wait to share more of this project with you all! This book has been over ten years in the works (so I really, really, really hope it’ll be worth it).

Writing Tip - Listen to Music

A challenge most people face when writing is trying to find the right inspiration. For me, music is my go-to for inspiration. When I’m ready to write, I find a quiet space and put in those earbuds.

Platforms like Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, and Apple Music let you set up your own playlists, so make a playlist for your WIP! Listening to the right song might help you find what’s missing in that scene you are cracking down on.

Many writers make playlists for their WIPs, and if we’re feeling confident enough, we might share them! Do I have playlists for my projects? Maybe… (Perhaps I’ll share those playlists another time).

If you need more than music, exercise gets that brain churning. Whenever I’m in a creative slump, a good walk around the neighborhood or on the hiking trail puts me back where I need to be. Of course, you’ll catch me listening to music while I’m walking. I can’t leave the house without my earbuds.

Book Shoutout

The Wolf of Ugol - Catherine Conrad

Every month, I’m shouting out a different book! So, I have to dedicate this first shoutout to my friend, Catherine Conrad, and her novella, The Wolf of Ugol.

Book Blurb:

A slave to a scummy loan shark, leg-breaking nobody Vladimir M. Kuznetsov has just been approached by Tategami Shiro, a Hiretsunan General who has a mark on the head of one of Vlad’s old employers. While he wants nothing to do with Shiro, Vlad has no choice but to take the bounty when Shiro dangles his freedom over his head. When the job goes south, and Vlad is forced to face his grisly past, his life doesn’t seem like it could possibly get any worse.

But, per Vlad’s typically terrible fortune, it most certainly does.

The Eternal Dusk

Did you know my sister has her own webcomic? It’s called The Eternal Dusk, and it’s available to read on WebToon, ComicFury, DeviantArt, and Instagram!

Poem - The Estuary

I stand at the mouth of the river,
muted and alone.
Some waves of temperance
spill into the world beyond.
The water pulls against my ankles
as I find the distant horizon.
One ship at sea,
one large assemblage of clouds
in the sky.

One person on the shore.

Upon the delta,
I will make a change.
Leave the past behind.
Follow the wind,
let its whispers guide me
to the future.

There is no better place
for reflection.
A life,
the narrow river of destination,
crafted by an alien force,
a stream of discipline and conquest.
A wish,
the aquatic realm beyond the waterfront,
an ocean of triumph and freedom.

As the estuary pools into the sea,
so does life evolve into another.
Like a river,
change is just one tide away,
if you know where to look.

With that thought,
I smile for once
and take a step forward.
As destiny goes
there is no end,
only new beginnings.
